The Handover is the trio of Leuven-born pianist Jonas Cambien and two Egyptian musicians: Aly Eissa (oud) and Ayman Asfour (violin). Together, they perform sweaty grooves inspired by Egyptian ritual music. The delicacy of Arabic classical music and the raw expressiveness of Egypt's countryside go hand in hand with the spontaneity of free improvisation and elements of electronic music. A show by The Handover is one long trip without a break, accelerating slowly towards an ecstatic climax with ecstatic dance rhythms. Their debut album was released in May on Alan Bishop's label Sublime Frequencies.
